The Emilia-Romagna is one of the most beautiful regions of Italy, that reveal to us a cuisine to discover, one of the most authentic and creatives of the country, with a comfortable 7 days stay at the elegant capital, Bologna, known as the “Erudite, Fat and Red”.
Arrival in Bologna and transfer to hotel. In time, welcome cocktail and presentation of the program.
We start exploring the city by foot at until the Basilica of St. Petronius, then follow the arcaded streets around the Asinelli and Garisenda Towers and the delicious market stalls, with perfumes of fruit and vegetables and the bustle of a true outdoor market. We will stop at Antica Salsamenteria Tamburini to taste a cut of hams and salami, accompanied by a glass of chilled Pignoletto. We continue to the 16th cent. Archiginnasio Palace, with its beautiful rooms full of frescoes and coats of arms of noblemen who came from all over Europe to study here. Remaining day at leisure. Accommodation.
Day to explore the Bassa Parmese region with a unique experience. Arriving to Relais and farm of Chef Massimo Spigarolli, we will learn everything about this delicatesse, the “Culatello di Zibello”. Time for a light lunch that will include several gourmet products from the estate, various sausages and cheeses and the famous culatello. In the afternoon, visit of the fantastic Castello Meli Lupi, still currently inhabited by Prince Diofebo Meli Lupi, whose family built the original building in 1385. We continue to Parma, land of the famous prosciutto, where we will take a walk to Piazza del Duomo. Return to Bologna and accommodation.
Departure to visit a producer of the famous Balsamic Aceto di Modena, followed by a light lunch and tasting of local products. We continue along beautiful roads to the capital of Ferrari in Maranello. It’s time to get to know the museum and test drive a Ferrari. Return to Bologna in the afternoon and free time. Tonight we have dinner in a very familiar restaurant, popular among Bolognese families, with delicious dishes and a friendly service. Come a casa mia !!
Departure to Dozza, a small town surrounded by walls, with beautiful streets full of houses with artistically painted facades. We will take a stroll to see the main streets before heading to Imola, known for its Formula 1 circuit. Stroll through the historic center of this city before continuing for lunch at an excellent 2 * Michelin restaurant. Return to Bologna and rest day free.
Today we will meet Ravenna, the last capital of the Roman Empire of the West. The city gained importance as early as the first century when Empe- ror Augustus built a port and naval base in the nearby town of Classe, and for nearly two centuries was the capital of the Roman Empire. We will visit the fabulous Byzantine monuments such as the Basilica of San Vitale and the Tomb of the Empress Galla Placidia, VI, with beautiful mosaic decoration. A few steps from this monumental complex, we will have a light lunch with fresh homemade pasta, delicious pastries and attentive service. Free time to stroll and return to Bologna.
Free day to stroll through the arcades of Bologna, explore the shops full of interesting things, have a coffee on a terrace and watch the Bolognese pass, enter the bookstores and buy one or two cookbooks. Today is our last day of travel, so we have a table marked in the delicious Amerigo dal 1934 (1 * Michelin), where we will taste several dishes accompanied by wines. Accommodation.
