The Route of Santiago de Compostela - A Nautical Journey
Oporto · Vigo · Cangas · Island of Cíes · Baiona · Islands of Ons · Sanxenxo · Portonovo · San Vicente do Mar · Vilanova de Arousa · Cabo de Cruz (Boiro) · Pontecesures · Milladoiro · Santiago de Compostela
It is true that many routes lead to Santiago de Compostela. With this journey we propose to travel to this World Heritage Site in a sailboat combined with a short distance walk. We will pick you up at the city of Oporto, in Portugal and drive you through the beautiful landscapes of Minho, crossing the border into Spain to Galicia, to reach the port of Vigo. The sailboat awaits to start your journey, touching several ports with some visits and meals included, until desembarkation for a small walk to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. There, you will receive the "Compostela", to prove that you accomplished the Pilgrimage of the Way of St James.
The Nautical Journey is a new officially recognized way to get to Compostela, visiting the most emblematic places of Rias Baixas. The main requirement is to sail at least 90 nautical miles and stamp the Credential on all required ports. Finally, to complete the Way, we must walk the last 7 km from Milladoiro to Santiago, stamping the Credential one last time at the Pilgrim Workshop, to receive the Compostela.
Night moored in the port of Vigo aboard the sailboat.
Night moored in the bay of Baiona aboard the sailboat. (Distance: 20/25 miles)
Evening moored in the port of Portonovo aboard the sailboat. (Distance: 26/30 miles)
Night moored in Cabo de Cruz harbor aboard the sailboat. (Distance: 30/35 miles)
At this point you will have a transfer to Milladoiro, while your luggage is carried to Santiago. Now you only have to walk the mandatory final 7 km to Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, where you will get the final stamp in your Credential and receive the Compostela.
Enjoy your trip!
